The Institute of Cartopology makes and studies maps that focus on people and everyday life. By combining mapping with fieldwork, participatory methods and lived experience, we help make sense of places and landscapes — and of the social and environmental challenges connected to them.
Fieldwork
Based at Berghut Halverwege, the Institute of Cartopology is rooted in daily life. The mountain hut and surrounding landscape act as an open classroom, where research becomes an active practice, carried out by both professional and amateur researchers through fieldwork, observation and shared documentation.
