Mounting Mountains

What happens when we create mountains ourselves? Soil heaps, mining waste, glacier coverings, landscapes are constantly being assembled, reshaped, and dismantled.

This sub-theme explores the making and unmaking of mountains: ecological restoration, artificial landforms, and the ethics of transforming what we call “nature.” Can a waste mountain become a living ecosystem? Can a mountain be preserved or is it always in the process of disappearance?

Through material experiments, rescue practices, and landscape observation, participants investigate what it means to build (and care for) a mountain.
