Concealed Landscapes

Maps do not only reveal, they also conceal. Beneath repairs, folds, annotations, and digital layers lie stories of journeys, memories, and decisions about what remains visible or hidden.

This sub-theme explores the hidden lives of maps. What do worn surfaces and repairs tell us? Where have the traces of use gone in digital cartography? And how can we map what is usually overlooked: the marks of care, damage, and time?

Through conservation practices and new forms of mapping, participants uncover what maps quietly carry within them.
